    Major

    Major Thomas J. Feeney serves as the Commander of the Court Operations Division.  He began his career at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in December 2008, as the Commander of the Training Division.  The Training Division is comprised of the Law Enforcement Training Section, Detention Training Section, Practical Training Site Section, and the Organizational Research Section and is responsible for the training and development of sworn and civilian personnel, as well as management of the sworn promotional process.

    In April 2011, Major Feeney was appointed as the Commander of the Special Investigations Division.  This division is responsible for oversight of covert and sensitive investigations related to organized crime, illegal firearms distribution, narcotics trafficking, prolific and violent offenders, gang activity, fugitive apprehension, online child pornography, gambling and prostitution. The Special Investigations Division also supports the analytical process used to support the Intelligence Led Policing strategy.

    In October 2014, he returned to the Training Division and served there until assuming his current command in April 2017. 

    In 1980, Major Feeney began his career in law enforcement as a police officer in Ocean City, Maryland.  In 1983, Major Feeney joined the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a Special Agent and served for more than 20 years as a Special Agent, or Supervisory Special Agent in Washington, D.C., San Francisco, West Palm Beach, Miami and Tampa.  In 2003, Major Feeney joined the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) and supervised criminal and terrorist activities targeting this Nation’s transportation systems. Major Feeney also supervised the Orlando Field Office’s Training Squad which was responsible for developing and managing all aspects of training at the field office level. During that time, Major Feeney was selected to participate in various FAMS working groups which focused on policy issues and assessed a wide range of training programs and equipment.

    Major Feeney holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida. He also attended the DEA’s Group Supervisor Institute, a four-week training program conducted by the University of Virginia’s Center for Executive Development.
