    • Major Ray Lawton

      Major Ray Lawton is a native of Tampa and a 1969 graduate of Hillsborough High School. Following a three year enlistment in the U.S. Army, he hired on with Tampa Fire Rescue where he worked for ten years as a firefighter/paramedic. In 1982, he was appointed deputy sheriff by Sheriff Walter Heinrich.

      Since that time Major Lawton has worked various assignments in patrol, special investigations, internal affairs and human resources. Major Lawton served more than seventeen years in SWAT as a team member, team leader and as deputy tactical commander. 

      Major Lawton is a member of the Carrollwood Kiwanis, has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University, and completed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Senior Leadership Program.
