The Public Information Office disseminates information to the public and media on a wide variety of subjects, including agency facts, policies and procedures, breaking news stories and interviews with Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Corporal Larry McKinnon

Corporal Larry McKinnon joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2007. He put his decades of law enforcement experience to work in patrol in eastern Hillsborough County. In 2009, Corporal McKinnon was chosen by Sheriff Gee to expand and enhance the agency’s media relations.
Prior to his employment with the Sheriff’s Office, Corporal McKinnon was a decorated officer with the Tampa Police Department. He joined the police department in 1982. During his career at TPD, he served as patrol officer, field training officer, narcotics detective and as a member of the Selective Enforcement Bureau. He was also the corporal of the DUI Squad. He was assigned as a Tampa Police hostage negotiator for 11 years.
In 2005 he earned the prestigious Tampa Police Officer of The Year Award for his hard work, dedication and leadership role that helped reduce crime nearly 12 percent. He retired from the Tampa Police Department and was hired as a civilian in the agency’s Public Information Office until his employment with HCSO.
Corporal McKinnon is a Hillsborough County native and lives with his family in Brandon.

Debbie Carter has been employed with the Sheriff's Office for over 29 years in the Public Information Office. She currently serves as the Chief Public Information in the Nations 14th larges media market. She is a member of the National Information Officer's Association and the Florida Law Enforcement Public Information Officers Association. As a member of the Public Information Officers Association, Ms. Carter is utilized by law enforcement agencies throughout the state as a trainer for new Public Information Officers. She has served on the executive board of the Florida Law Enforcement Public Information Officers Association. She also served as the Co-Chair of the Tampa Bay Regional Domestic Security Task Force Public Affairs Committee.
Ms. Carter is the President of Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay, a not for profit organization involving law enforcement, businesses and media to publicize information about wanted criminals to the community through television and printed media. She also serves on the Executive Board of Directors for the Lynn Sowers Memorial Foundation.
She is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 108. At the inception of the Sheriff's Office Peer Support Team in 1995 Ms. Carter served as the assistant coordinator and served as the Team Coordinator from 1997 until 2010.
Cristal Bermudez Nuñez

Cristal Bermudez Nuñez joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2009 and is the newest addition to the Public Information Office. She previously worked in the Community Affairs Office as a liaison for Spanish media, producing brochures for the public, creating video projects, and helping maintain the website and social media accounts. The Public Information Office is responsible for disseminating information to the public and media on a wide variety of subjects, including agency facts, policies and procedures, breaking news stories and interviews with Sheriff’s Office personnel.
Mrs. Bermudez Nuñez was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications from the University of South Florida.
