Hillsborough County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the suicide of a man on Wednesday morning after several employees of a bail bondsman kicked in the front door of his girlfriend’s house to take him into custody on a bond issue.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at 9425 Tarpon Springs Road. Seven bail bondsmen from a Pasco County bonds firm surrounded the home looking for the 49-year-old fugitive. Three of the bail bonds agents knocked on the front door and yelled to the occupants inside. One of the surety agents then kicked in the front door and rushed in. Inside they encountered a woman, who was the man’s girlfriend, and she told the surety agents that the man was in the bathroom. The surety agents then filled the bathroom with pepper spray. Then a gunshot was heard in a nearby bedroom. The surety agents found the man on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. The man died an hour later at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The man’s name is not being released at this time because relatives have not been notified.
The surety agents are from Lisa Stout Bail Bonds in Port Richey.
The investigation continues.
