Aggravated Child Abuse
On or about March 25, 2010 at approximately 8:00 p.m., the defendant immersed the victim in the bathtub in scalding hot water causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns to her feet, legs and buttocks. The Child Protection medical team reviewed the case and opined the injuries are “classic” immersion burns, an inflicted injury. The victim’s injury was known to the defendant who did not seek medical attention until approximately 4:00 p.m. on March 26, 2010. The victim told Detectives that the defendant “did it.” The defendant admitted to being alone with the victim at the time of the injury as the child’s mother was not home and he was babysitting. The incident occurred in Hillsborough County. The injuries to the child required skin graft surgery and the child is in stable condition at Tampa General Hospital at this time. Medina was arrested today, April 16, 2010 at the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Office.
