    Charge: Falsely Impersonating an Officer

    Victim:

    Karen Murphy, DOB 9-12-90
    St. Petersburg, FL.

    Details:

On December 26, 2010 at approximately 8:30 p.m. the victim was driving southbound on the Veterans Expressway heading toward St. Petersburg when a white Crown Victoria drove up behind the victim, began tailgating her and then turned on a red flashing light and another light. The victim believing that a legitimate law enforcement officer was stopping her, she pulled off the side of the roadway. The vehicle pulled over behind the victim. As the victim looked in her rearview mirror, she noticed that the driver was wearing a camouflage hoodie and she noticed there were two other individuals in the suspect vehicle. At that point, the victim became uneasy and drove away. The suspect vehicle followed her and then drove past her. As the vehicle sped past the victim she observed a second male in the back seat of the vehicle that turned around and laughed at the victim as they drove past. The victim followed the suspect vehicle and was able to get a good description as well as the tag number.

Deputies were able to locate the vehicle in the area of Ehrlich Road and Gunn Highway. The vehicle owned by Bradley Hamel was equipped with lights and sirens which he admitted to purchasing and installing on the vehicle.

The female in the vehicle was not arrested and is considered a witness.
