Update: On Friday, July 9, 2010 at approximately 1:30 p.m., the suspect was arrested by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Tampa Police Department. Detectives received a tip from the public that the suspect was in the area inside the Robles Park Housing Complex. Due to the team work of both agencies, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
On July 7, 2010 at approximately 11:44 a.m., the suspect entered Sweetbay Supermarket and attempted to pass a bad check. While waiting for the verification of the check, the suspect stole a woman's wallet from her purse in a shopping cart.
The owner of the wallet witnessed the theft and followed the suspect out of the store and through the parking lot. The owner of the wallet began screaming for help and a good samaritan driving through the parking lot stopped to help. The good samaritan got out of his vehicle and chased the suspect who had entered an older model vehicle. The suspect then started the car and struck the good samaritan as he was fleeing the parking lot. The good samaritan received minor injuries.
HCSO Sgt. George Mosher was on duty driving through the parking lot and witnessed the incident. As Sgt. Mosher activated his emergency lights, the suspect witnessed Sgt. Mosher approaching and rammed Sgt. Mosher's vehicle head on. Sgt. Mosher called for back up while the suspect backed his vehicle up and rammed Sgt. Mosher's vehicle again.
Detective John Graves responded to the call for help and when he pulled into the parking lot, Det. Graves stuck a concrete light pole in the parking lot sustaining a serious but non-life threatening head injury.
Detective Graves was taken to Tampa general Hospital where he is currently in stable condition. The suspect fled the scene.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect or have additional information about this crime is asked to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813- 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
