Obtaining Drugs from Physician by Withholding Information (x 36)
On June 1st, detectives arrested Diane Sabel, a physician’s assistant, after obtaining information that she was doctor shopping. From January 2009 through May 2010, detectives confirmed she obtained 11,712 Oxycodone pills, to include Oxycodone 15mg, 20mg, 30mg and Oxycontin 40mg and 80mg, from 3 local clinics. Sabel was being treated at Superior Medical Clinic, 1st Choice Personal Injury Clinic and Interventional Pain Services all at the same time and receiving prescriptions from all three clinics. At the time of arrest, Sabel was employed as a physician’s assistant with Mariner PrimeCare Medical Center in Spring Hill. Previous to working as a physician’s assistant, Sabel was a registered nurse and was employed by Moffitt. Sabel would also bring home blank prescriptions from her place of employment so that an accomplice, Kimberly Nosworthy (DOB 06/30/68), could forge the signature and fill the prescriptions for even more drugs such as Soma, Xanax and Oxycodone. Nosworthy, a registered nurse at The Nursing Center at University Village, was arrested on May 18th and charged with Trafficking in Illegal Drugs (x3), Possession of Controlled Substance (x2), Obtaining Controlled Substance by Fraud (x4), Fraudulent Use of Personal Information (x4), Possession of Drug Without Prescription and Fraud in Obtaining Medicinal Drugs. Detectives believe that the women were obtaining the drugs for their personal use.
