On June 2, 2010, at approximately 12:42 p.m. HCSO received a 911 call from a caller who stated they were following a 2000 Toyota Tundra southbound on U.S. 301 near Boyette Road and witnessed the driver toss three live kittens out of his car windows. The witness stated at least one kitten had already been run over and killed by the suspect's vehicle.
911 operators kept the caller on the phone while deputies began responding to intercept the vehicle. Deputies located the suspect in his vehicle southbound on U.S. 301 and initiated a traffic stop at Summerfield Square Blvd and U.S. 301.
Written statements were taken from the witness who then took deputies to Riverview Drive and Dean Street and pointed out a small kitten dead in the roadway.
Michael Major was placed under arrest for felony animal cruelty and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail.
No other animals were located in Major's vehicle.
