    Suspect Shoots Into Crowd And Fatally Wounds Innocent Bystander

    Suspect fires shots into a group of people at a graduation party and strikes 3 victims.

    On May 23, 2010 at approximately 12:50 a.m., deputies responded to a shooting that occurred during a celebration at a rental party hall located at 11349 Bloomingdale Avenue in Riverview. During the celebration, a fight broke out between several of the attendants of the party. The defendant, Khayri McCray, was struck in the nose during fight. He then left the party hall as the chaperones were ejecting the individuals that were fighting.

    While a crowd formed outside the main structure, the defendant retrieved a firearm and fired several rounds in the direction of the crowd. The victim, Devante Dallas, received a gunshot wound to the chest and expired at the scene. Victim Jeffrey Thomas received a gunshot wound to his lower back and was treated and released from the hospital. Victim De Ron received a gunshot wound to his upper right chest and was also treated and released from the hospital.

    The defendant then fled the scene. Detectives were preparing an arrest warrant when the suspect contacted the Sheriff’s Office and advised he was with his parents and wanted to meet with detectives. At approximately 8:00 p.m., McCray arrived at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division where he was arrested.
