    Boyfriend Arrested For Murder

    A dispute over bills gets physical.

    Charge:  Second Degree Murder

    Details:

    On April 13, 2011 at approximately 8:47 a.m. Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a person down at 1515 - 139 Avenue East. County Fire responded and pronounced the victim deceased at 9:10 a.m. According to the witness, she advised that her son Leon Stevenson, Jr. (suspect) arrived at her residence on 139th Avenue at which time she asked where the victim was.
    The witness walked to the defendant’s truck and observed the victim lying unresponsive in the passenger seat. The witness had the defendant bring the victim into the residence at which time she called 911 and started CPR. A detective met the defendant at Nebraska Avenue and Paris Street where he agreed to voluntarily provide an interview with the detective. The defendant was transported to Criminal Investigations Division for his interview. Post Miranda the defendant stated that he had gotten into a verbal dispute over bills with the victim which became physical when he grabbed the victim by the neck and threw her on the floor within their (boyfriend/girlfriend) apartment located at 12802 North 58th Street. Defendant also stated that he slapped the victim and choked her multiple times. He stated that he helped the victim into the shower and then placed her on the bed when he noticed that she was having a problem breathing. He stated that he fell asleep and when he woke up at 8:00 a.m. he observed the victim was not moving and gasping for air, at which time he transported her to his mother’s house. The victim was cold to the touch before CPR was initiated. Dr. Mainland of the Medical Examiners Office conducted an autopsy and determined the cause of death to be blunt impact to the head with subdural hematoma and subarachnoid hemorrhage with the manner as homicide.
