On 7/29/11, Detectives and Deputies assigned to the District Four Investigative Unit were at Patriot Metals in Gibsonton. While at the recycling facility, deputies observed Richard Macbay turn in ninety seven pounds of brass plates. Deputies contacted Richard Macbay and questioned him on how he obtained the material. During the conversation, Richard Macbay told deputies that he was employed by Busch Gardens and that he took the scrap metal from his job. Further investigation revealed that Richard Macbay had stolen the brass bars from Busch Gardens and turned them in at the recycler without permission. It was also discovered that the brass bars were used as brake pads for roller coasters at the amusement park. Richard Macbay was arrested and interviewed at which time he admitted to taking the material without permission. The brass bars were recovered from the recycler and returned to Busch Gardens. The value of the material was listed at $1,100.00.
