Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Joshua Poe at his residence on August 18, 2011 charging in with 61 various charges in reference to numerous residential and business air conditioning unit thefts. Detectives with the District Three office began investigating the numerous thefts and during the course of the investigation they developed information which identified Poe. Poe’s arrest culminates a 2-1/2 week long joint investigation with the Special Investigation Division’s Tactical Intelligence Unit.
In each of the incidents, Poe would dismantle the air conditioning units from the various victims’ and remove the internal parts for copper scrapping. He then exchanged the stolen property for U.S. currency at licensed recycling locations.
The combined loss for the 23 victims/businesses is estimated at over $500,000.
