At approximately 8:43 a.m. this morning deputies were notified of an individual driving a 2009 Toyota Camry (Hot Pink in color) in a wreck less manner and waving a gun out of the window of his vehicle at other drivers. He committed an aggravated assault by pointing the gun at a victim.
Deputies came in contact with the individual in the area of 139th and 15th where deputies attempted a traffic stop. The suspect fled from deputies and was pursued into the City of Tampa in the Sulpher Springs area. During the course of the pursuit, in the area of 30th street and 109 avenue East, the suspect was traveling eastbound on 109th avenue and ran the stop sign and was attempting to turn onto 30th street.
The suspect struck two vehicles that were traveling northbound on 30th street. The first vehicle a 2005 Jeep Cherokee was struck in the front left wheel area, causing that vehicle to rotate. The driver was not injured. The suspect vehicle then struck a 2002 Chevrolet Van (Boyte Plumbing) in the back left tire causing the van to flip on the side.
The driver was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The pursuit ended in the area of 9th and Annie where the suspect bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot. Aviation was able to see the suspect flee into an apartment at 9603 North 10th Street.
Deputies were able to see the suspect inside the residence, deputies kicked in the door to make entry and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. A weapon was recovered at the scene. It appears that the suspect had initially tried to hide in the ceiling, but fell through and that is when deputies spotted him through the window.
