Deputy Richard Paul, 61
8 year veteran
2008 Crown Victoria
Assigned to District Four- Accident Investigator
At approximately 5:46 a.m. on January 2, 2011 Deputy Richard Paul responded to a traffic crash at 809 2nd Avenue N.E. where a 1993 Mercury had crashed into a culvert in front of the residence breaking the axel on the vehicle. When Deputy Paul arrived on scene the vehicle was empty. A few minutes later a male walked out of a wooded area and told Deputy Paul that he was the one that crashed the vehicle. The male was cooperative and was standing at the front of Deputy Paul’s vehicle. Deputy Paul left his patrol vehicle running and the emergency lights activated. When Deputy Paul walked over to inspect the vehicle crash, the suspect jumped in Deputy Paul's vehicle and fled to the area of 6th street north east and Shell Point road where he abandoned the patrol vehicle (lights still activated). The patrol vehicle was not damaged in anyway and there was nothing taken.
The suspect was located at approximately 9:00 a.m. while walking down the sidewalk in the area of 21st Street S.E. and College.
