On February 8, 2010 at approximately 4:40 p.m. deputies were called to the address of 621 North Forbes Road in Plant City reference a homicide. The Sheriff’s Office was notified by an individual that had gone to the residence and discovered the victim deceased inside the house.
On February 10, 2010, detectives issued a warrant for the arrest of Angel Felix Pina aka “Rule”. Pina’s photo was released to local media and investigators asked that anyone with any information call the Sheriff’s Office. Detectives believed that the suspect had probably fled from the Tampa Bay area. Investigators were coordinating efforts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and as a result Pina was located and arrested on January 8, 2011, in South Texas by ICE agents. Hillsborough County detectives traveled to Brownsville, Texas and interviewed Pina who gave a full confession to the murder of Caleb Rife.
On February 8, 2010 the victim and suspect who were acquaintances were at Rife’s residence watching television. They had an exchange of words and as a result the suspect shot the victim and then fled.
