Vehicle: 2010 Crown Victoria
This morning at approximately 4:10 a.m., Deputy Sills was responding to a report of a stolen vehicle that had just occurred at the Murphy USA Gas station location at 9023 Gibsonton Drive. The victim, Alvaro Rubio, DOB 12-30-70 of 10016 Alavista Drive in Gibsonton was giving a friend a ride home, they stopped at the gas station for gas. While the victim went inside to pay, his son got out to pump gas and the friend, Jaime Rodriguez, jumped in the driver’s seat and fled with the vehicle.
Deputy Sills, while in the area of Habersham Lane and 50th street attempting to locate the possible suspect and vehicle, was traveling northbound on 50th street when he heard a “bang” and the rear window of his vehicle shattered. It appears that a pellet or some other projectile came from the west side of 50th street. Deputy Sills was not injured and damage is estimated at $500.
The suspect in the stolen vehicle case was later apprehended and the vehicle was recovered. Jaime Rodriguez was taken into custody in the area of Big Bend Road and Interstate 75. He is charged with Grand Theft Motor Vehicle.
