    Domestic Call Results In Shooting

    Suspect opens fire on deputies.

    Details:

    At approximately 11:25 p.m. January 22, 2011, EMS received a medical assistance call to the address of 8211 Royal Sands Circle, Apt. 211 (Waters Edge Apartments). The call was placed by the wife. The husband then got on the phone with EMS personnel and was making threats that someone was going to get hurt. EMS personnel learned that the husband was holding the wife at gunpoint. EMS personnel contacted the Sheriff's Office asking for deputies to respond for assistance at the address. Deputies arrived on scene and knowing that the suspect was armed, they took cover behind vehicles in the parking lot and attempted to make contact with the suspect inside the apartment which is on the second floor. The deputies then observed the wife exiting the apartment with her hands in the air. The suspect then exited the apartment and immediately fired several shots at the deputies downstairs. The deputies returned fire, striking the suspect. No injuries to any of the deputies. The wife was not injured. The suspect was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was died at approximately 10:00 on January 23, 2011.

    According to the wife, the suspect is on required medication that he has not been taking and she stated that he has been upset, crying all day and making threats of suicide. The couple have a two year old daughter that was asleep in the bedroom during the incident.

    In accordance with Sheriff’s Office policy, involved deputies will be placed on administrative leave with pay, pending administrative review.
