11605 Valencia Drive
On May 12, 2011 at approximately 9:26 p.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at 11605 Valencia Drive, apt. B in Seffner. Deputies found the victim and suspect in front of the residence, bleeding from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The victim, Ruben Gonzalez was pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital at 10:26 p.m. Gonzalez died as a result of gunshot wounds received during the incident.
During the investigation it was learned, while conducting interviews with two eye witnesses, both persons located at the scene were roommates and currently reside at the incident scene. The witnesses advised that the victim was pushed out of the front door of the residence by the defendant, Felipe Ramos, during an argument. The defendant came outside and started striking the victim with his fist while screaming “I will kill you”. The witnesses advised that the victim was lying on the ground as the defendant was standing over him punching the victim multiple times. The defendant grabbed the victim off the ground by his neck and screamed into his face, “I told you I would kill you ……” The witnesses advised that the defendant grabbed the victim by the neck in a choke hold. The witnesses could hear the victim screaming for help and asking for someone to call 911.
The defendant asked a white female to get his “piece” (gun) at which time the witnesses observed a female come out of the residence with a firearm. The defendant took possession of the firearm and pointed the firearm at the victim’s face. A struggle ensued between the victim and the defendant. The defendant was attempting to shoot the victim in his face, while struggling for the firearm, when the gun went off striking the defendant in the chest. The defendant screamed at the victim and continued to attempt to shoot the victim in the face. The gun went off a second time, striking the defendant in the chest a second time. The defendant then pushed the victim to the ground, pointed the firearm at the victim and then shot the victim twice in the face causing his death. The defendant was identified by the witnesses to law enforcement, as they arrived on scene as the person who committed the offense. The defendant was transported to Tampa General Hospital for medical treatment. During the struggle with the victim, the suspect was shot.
The suspect was remote booked at the hospital on June 7, 2011 on the above charges.
The investigation continues.
