Gabriel A. Guzman
8350 Savannah Trace Cr Apt 206
Attempted Armed Robbery
On June 28, 2011, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Gabriel Guzman walked into the Shell Gas Station located at 5935 Memorial Hwy in Tampa wearing a mask and bullet proof vest. Guzman armed with a black and silver gun, pointed the gun at the store clerk’s chest and demanded cash. The store clerk wrestled the gun from Guzman causing him to flee the store empty handed.
HCSO Reserve deputies patrolling near Shell Station spotted a male subject riding a bicycle matching the description of the robbery suspect. Upon stopping the subject, the subject’s cell phone was continuously ringing. The Reserve Deputy asked if he could answer it and the subject gave consent. On the other end of the line, was another male who was out breath and stating “I am behind Murphy’s Bar and I can’t get out”.
Deputies, K9 Units and the Aviation Unit responded to Murphy’s Bar which was a short distance away from the Shell Station and located Guzman hiding behind the dumpster. Detectives interviewed the suspect and he admitted to the robbery. Detectives later recovered the mask and bullet proof vest.
The individual on the bicycle is also a juvenile and has not yet been charged pending further investigation.
