Operation Pain Reliever Investigation
Latest Update of Pain Clinics Closed
- March 15, 2011
- Time: 12:59 PM
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the Florida Department of Health, the Hillsborough County Consumer Protection and Hillsborough County Code Enforcement have successfully closed multiple pain pill clinics in Hillsborough County. HCSO undercover detectives found these clinics illegally dispensing pain medications.
In July 2010, Hillsborough County passed a "Pain Management Ordinance" that helped provide the means to close these clinics. Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives continue to target the illegal pain pill market in the county.
Over the last year, Detectives with the Sheriff's Special Operations Division have arrested more than 85 people on charges ranging trafficking in controlled substances to doctor shopping during Operation Pain Reliever.
The Sheriff's Office is concentrating on the illegal pain pill market to reduce the number of fatal overdoses occurring in the Tampa Bay area by pushing for enhanced legislation to regulate pain clinics, to aggressive enforcement such as Operation Pain Reliever.
The Sheriff's Office will never stop working to make our county safer!
