Trapper John Wilson, age 45
Licensed Trapper for 11 years
On May 11, 2011 at 7:43 p.m., deputies were called to 913 US 301 S in Palm River to check on a report of a loose alligator near the roadway. Deputy Heyden Ayure arrived on scene and located the alligator which was approximately 7 feet in length.
Licensed trapper John Wilson responded and during the process of capturing the alligator, the gator spun around and bit down on the trapper's lower leg.
Deputy Ayure was in close proximity to the alligator and, in fear for himself and other citizens and the trapper, discharged his firearm several times striking the alligator in the head and neck. The alligator was deceased at the scene and removed by a trapper. Wilson was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.
Deputy Ayure works midnight shift and is not available for comment at this time.
