Deputy Byron Beasley, 40 years of age
2 years with the agency
Assigned to District Two Patrol
On November 3, 2011 at approximately 1:15 a.m. Deputy Bryon Beasley while on patrol was behind a 2005 Ford F150. As a matter of routine, Deputy Beasley ran the tag on the pick up truck. The driver of the truck pulled into a gas station at the corner of Orient Road and Broadway avenue. Deputy Beasley also pulled into the gas station parking lot. At this time, the results on the tag came back confirming that the owner of the truck is David Solano and that he had four outstanding felony warrants for his arrest. Dep. Beasley then called out to Solano by his first name, at which time Solano responded saying that he was walking back to the truck to get his wallet and identification.
Dep. Beasley walked over to the truck and hears Solano start the truck. As Dep. Beasley reached in to turn off the truck, Solano accelerated, dragging Deputy Beasley which was hanging on to the vehicle. As Dep. Beasley was hanging on, he fired his service weapon, striking the door of the truck. The suspect fled the scene. Deputy Beasley was not injured.
Alerts were sent out and Tampa Police Department discovered Sloan’s truck parked on 59th street. A few minutes later, a Tampa Police Officer (I do not have his name) located the suspect, a short foot pursuit occurred and the suspect was taken into custody by TPD on 67th street, south of Broadway. During the foot pursuit the TPD officer suffered an injury to his leg and Solano was complaining of neck pain. Both the TPD officer and the suspect were transported to Tampa General hospital. Solano will be booked into the Hillsborough County jail after he is medically cleared. .
As a matter of routine policy, Deputy Beasley will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending administrative review.
