On November 14, 2011 at approximately 6:10 p.m. deputies responded to 13403 Pinelake Way in Tampa in reference to a welfare check. A coworker of Shell’s called the Sheriff’s Office and reported that they were concerned since they had not heard from Shell since Thursday, November 10, 2011 when Shell left his place of business (1309 N. Florida Avenue) to go home. When Shell did not report for work on Monday, November 14, 2011 the coworker went to Shell’s apartment and did not find any signs of forced entry or anything out of place. They made several attempts to contact Shell with negative results, so the coworker contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived at the residence they discovered that Shells vehicle was missing, but according to the coworker, Shell had mentioned that he might be going out of town but did not specify where he was going. Deputies attempted to contact Shell via his cellphone, but the phone went straight to voicemail. Deputies also contacted hospitals and placed alerts for Shell and his vehicle.
On November 15, 2011, Shell’s vehicle was driven to Tampa Police Department headquarters where a body was discovered in the trunk of the car. At this time, the body has not been identified.
