Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives have arrested a man who kidnapped a woman as she walked down a street and then raped her in the woods and in an apartment complex restroom.
On October 4, 2011 at approximately 8 p.m., the victim was on Delaney Creek Drive, just west of Falkenburg Road, when she was grabbed from behind and forced into a wooded area by the suspect, Devarian M. Thomas, DOB 4/3/88. Under threat of death, the victim was sexually battered. The suspect then forced the woman to a nearby apartment complex, "Circle at Crosstown" where he sexually battered her twice in a women's restroom near the pool. The suspect again threatened to kill the woman if she told anyone.
After the suspect left, the woman waited in the restroom for a short period of time and then contacted HCSO.
HCSO Detectives and crime scene investigators processed the crime scene and were able to obtain physical evidence linking Thomas to this crime.
In July 2006, Devarian Thomas was sentenced to 5 years in Florida State Prison for Robbery Home Invasion, Robbery with a Firearm or Deadly Weapon and Grand Theft of a Firearm. In December 2010, Thomas was released from prison and required to serve 15 years probation.
