On May 25, 2011, at approximately 2:12 a.m., at 14912 Lake Forest Drive, the defendant "Chunping Lin" and victim "Lixin Tian" entered into a verbal dispute that turned physical which resulted in the defendant beating his wife, Lixin Tian, with his hands and pulling her hair while inside their home. The defendant and the victim have a 10 year old son, who tried to defend his mother and was knocked down by the defendant. The boy sustained a laceration to his right finger from broken glass that was on the bedroom carpet.
The victim's 19 year old son Boyu Zhang was bitten on the left arm by the defendant while he was trying to restrain the defendant from beating his mother. Tian and her sons ran out of the house in an attempt to escape. The defendant followed the three victims threatening to kill them. The victim's youngest son got halfway into the vehicle while running but fell out while the car was in drive and the rear passenger tire rolled over his foot, injuring him. Upon realizing her son had been injured Tian quickly got out of the car to aid her son. Zhang restrained Chunping Lin on the ground until deputies arrived.

The 19 year old and his mother refused EMS at the scene. Fire Rescue transported the 10 year old child to St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries where he was treated and released. After a short period of time, Tian began experiencing pain in her head. The 19 year old drove his mother to St. Jospeh's Hospital. Tian underwent surgery and never regained consciousness. Tian died as a result of her injuries on July 15, 2011.

Investigators consulted with the State Attorney's Office and the charges were upgraded on September 15, 2011 to Second Degree Murder.
