7th Annual Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Charities 5K "Ranch Run"

The 7th Annual Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Charities 5K "Ranch Run" to benefit the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches was held on Saturday, September 17, 2011.

The Ranch Run began at 8 a.m. on the grounds of Temple Terrace Elementary School at 124 Flotto Avenue. Hundreds of runners and walkers participated.

A special guest at this year's Ranch Run was U.S. Army Sgt. Austin Burchard, who was wounded in Afghanistan during a combat mission in 2009. The bullet paralyzed Sgt. Buchard from the waist down. Sgt. Burchard rolled the 5k in his wheelchair, with assistance from Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office recruits, in honor of Nathaniel J.A. Schultz. Nathaniel was a graduate of the program at the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, and he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. Nathaniel was a Lance Corporal when he was killed in action in Afghanistan in August 2010.

Sgt. Burchard was also the honorary race starter for the Ranch Run.

Sgt. Austin Burchard and his wife Donna with Lisa Natkin, mother of Nathaniel Schultz, and one of his three sisters and a nephew.
