On September 17, 2011, at approximately 2:16 a.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a 911 emergency call regarding a suspicious person covered in blood seen walking in the parking lot near 1909 Plantation Palms Dr in the Plantation Key Apartment Complex in Brandon.
When deputies arrived, they located the victim, 46 year old Angel Luis Andino suffering from multiple stab wounds to his face and chest. Andino was conscious and was able to tell deputies "I was robbed". The victim was air lifted to Tampa General Hospital and was pronounced deceased at 3:49 a.m.
During the investigation, bloody foot prints were traced back to the victim's apartment at 1909 Plantation Palms Dr., Apartment #102. During a search of the apartment, detectives discovered a backpack that contained identification belonging to Donovan L. Merwin.
Later in the day, detectives made contact with Merwin at 10739 US Hwy 301 South in Riverview. Detectives interviewed Merwin and he admitted stabbing Andin multiple times in the master bedroom after they became involved in a physical altercation. Merwin advised he met Andino approximately one year ago after answering an ad on Craig's list that Andino placed looking for a roommate.
