On September 28, 2011 at approximately 1:41 p.m., Michael Carter was northbound on Lithia Pinecrest Road approaching Bloomingdale Avenue in the inside left turn lane. Carter noticed traffic in front of him was stopped and therefore applied his brakes excessively causing him to skid and lose control of his motorcycle. As a result, Carter laid the motorcycle down and slid into the back of Burgos’ vehicle.
Carter removed his helmet, backpack and shoes. He placed the items in the Wal-Greens parking lot. Once deputies were on the scene, a passerby who had noticed Carter hiding his items in the parking lot, asked him if he wanted to leave his items.
The deputy retrieved Carter’s belongings. Carter made a statement to the deputy, “There is marijuana in there.” Deputies recovered 4.7 pounds of marijuana packaged for sales with a street value of $16,000 and over $1,000 in cash within the backpack.
Carter was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital for minor injuries he sustained in the crash. Carter was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail after he was treated and released. No injuries to the other driver in the traffic crash.
