DUI Enforcement Extra Patrols
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office DUI Enforcement Unit will be out tonight and tomorrow with extra teams of patrols.
- December 24, 2012
- Time: 12:00 PM
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office DUI Enforcement Unit will be out
tonight and tomorrow with extra teams of patrols on the hunt for impaired
drivers. The additional manpower is thanks in part to a $145,000 grant from
the Florida Department of Transportation that will support more DUI patrols
during the "drinking holidays". The grant will also fund a public campaign to
prevent underage drinking in area high schools.
On New Year's Eve, the entire DUI Enforcement Squad will be on patrol.
There is a crucial reason for this enforcement: last year, Hillsborough County
had the highest number of alcohol-related fatalities in the state - 67. Last
year there were 4656 DUI violations total given in Hillsborough County -
that's according to 2011 traffic citation statistics from the Florida Highway
Safety and Motor Vehicles.
