814 Taray De Avila
On January 10, 2012, at approximately 8:53 pm, HCSO received a 911 call from a neighbor indicating shots were heard on Taray De Avila. About 2-3 minutes later, another 911 call was received from Ospina-Florez indicating a shooting had occurred at 814 Taray De Avila. When deputies arrived, they found Hector Rivera lying on the driveway deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.
Deputies then entered the residence and found Debra Rivera in a bathroom also deceased from multiple gunshots wounds. Deputies found Ospina-Florez in the residence uninjured.
During the investigation, detectives learned that on January 09, 2012 Debra and Julian went to the Sarasota Ritz Carlton to purchase and replenish merchandise for her business known as "Distinctive Creations". Debra Rivera and Julian Ospina-Florez then left Sarasota and drove back to the residence.
Ospina-Florez was an employee of the victims and was hired as a driver-assistant for Debra Rivera's home business, "Distinctive Creations".
Shortly after arriving at the residence, Ospina-Florez shot and killed Debra Rivera. A short time later, Hector Rivera arrived home and while looking for his wife, Ospina-Florez shot and killed him in the driveway.
During initial interviews with detectives, Ospina-Florez stated while inside the Rivera residence, he was attacked by an unknown male, bound and forced into a bathroom. No signs of forced entry were found at the residence or of any vehicles at the scene.
During the search of the residence, a 9mm handgun was found inside the residence. A database search of the owner of the 9mm firearm listed Ospina-Florez as the owner.
Also a box of ammo matching the same caliber and brand used in the shooting was recovered from inside Ospina-Florez's vehicle while still at the scene. A receipt was recovered from Ospina-Florez indicating he had purchased the ammo from a local Wal-Mart on December 07, 2011
Ospina-Florez was arrested while at HCSO Criminal Investigation Division and transported to the Hillsborough County Jail where he remains with no bond.
This investigation will continue.
