Randy Lee Davis
At 9:15 am, this morning, the suspect Randy Lee Davis, walked into the Wells Fargo Bank at 12233 N. Florida Ave and handed a teller a note that demanded cash. Davis, who indicated he had a weapon, was given an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the bank. Davis was seen getting into 1999 Oldsmobile Alero and heading south towards the City of Tampa.
HCSO deputies and officers with the Tampa Police Department began searching for the suspect and soon spotted the suspect's vehicle in a shopping center at W. Waters Ave and N. Armenia Ave. Deputies and Officers surrounded the shopping plaza and continued searching for Davis. Davis was spotted on the sidewalk outside a business at the shopping plaza.
Davis was detained and questioned about the robbery and later admitted during questioning that he committed the robbery. The money from the robbery was recovered from the vehicle and a knife was taken from Davis's possession. Detectives indicated that Davis recently arrived from North Carolina and borrowed the car used in the robbery from a friend.
Detectives will continue to work with local, state and federal law enforcement officials to determine if he may be involved in other past bank robberies. At this time there is no indication that anyone else was involved in this incident and no one was reported injured.
The investigation continues.
