    Deputy Involved Shooting

    At approximately 6:13 p.m. on July 22, 2012, deputies responded to the Paradise Village Mobile Home Park located at 9305 Victoria Lane in Seffner in reference to a male subject that was sitting on his front porch drinking alcohol and holding a gun to his head. The call was made by a neighbor at the Mobile Home Park that saw the individual on the porch with the gun.

    Deputies responded and came in contact with the subject and began a rapport. The individual continued to drink alcohol and began to wave the gun around in an erratic manner. Deputies continued with verbal commands to put the gun down. The subject then stood up and walked around unstable on his feet to the front of the mobile home to where one of the deputies that had been engaging him in conversation was located. The deputy made verbal commands for the individual to put the weapon down. Vilsack was holding the gun pointed in the deputy’s direction at which time 4 deputies that we on scene fearing for their lives, fired their service weapons.

    The subject was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. No deputies were injured. As a matter of procedure all four deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave with pay pending administrative review.
