The single occupant of a small plane died in early morning crash.

On June 9, 2012, at about 11:30 a.m., the pilot of the single seat Challenger made aircraft made two attempts to land on the grass runaway at Blackwater Creek Airport, located at 9002 Paul Buchman Highway in Plant City.
On the pilot's third attempt, he made his approach and for unknown reasons, landed hard on the belly of the fuselage. The plane then and skidded approximately fifty yards and stopped on the grass runway. Paramedics responded and found the pilot deceased while still strapped in his seat.
The Federal Aviation Authority has responded to the scene and will be assisting in determining the cause of the crash.
HCSO detectives and the Hillsborough County Medical Examiners Office are conducting the death investigation.
The investigation continues.
