    Details:

On June 15, 2012, just before 1 p.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an active shooting in the parking lot of the Village Inn located at the corner of N. Dale Mabry Hwy and West Humphrey Street in Tampa. When deputies arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshots wounds. Paramedics arrived on scene and both victims were pronounced deceased.

Guillermo Garcia and Okariny Diaz were at the back parking lot of the Village Inn exchanging custody of their 7 year old child.

The 7 year old child exited his father's pick truck up after returning from a visit from south Florida. The boy walked over and entered his mother's van that was already occupied with two other adults, one 10 year old female and two 14 year old females.

Both vehicles were parked nearly side by side when Garcia got out of his truck and walked to the driver side of the van where Diaz was seated. Both individuals began arguing when Garcia pulled out a revolver and shot Diaz multiple times killing her in front of the other occupants inside the van. Garcia then fired one self inflicted round into his head killing himself just out side the driver's side of the van. Everyone in the van escaped without any injuries.

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene and will be assisting in officially declaring the cause of death.
