    Details:

On June 18, 2012, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the suspects, James Wiggins and Elizabeth Woodcock entered a private residence. The suspects removed $150,000.00 in currency, 62 1-ounce gold coins valued at $100,000.00, jewelry and electronics were taken. The total value of currency and property taken was valued at $254,970.00.

Detectives identified the victim’s nephew as a suspect. Following an interview with detectives the suspects admitted to committing the burglary. Wiggins showed detectives where he hid the money and coins. Both suspects were arrested and charged with Burglary of a Residence and Grand Theft over $100,000.00.

During the interview with detectives, Wiggins and Woodcock admitted they had thrown the jewelry out of their car window, so that they would not be caught with identifying items from the burglary. On June 22, 2012, detectives searched an area of Bearss Avenue and Lake Magdalene Boulevard for the stolen jewelry. Following an extensive search of the area, detectives recovered three pieces of jewelry that were of sentimental value to the victims.

Detectives recovered and returned to the victims $142,853.00 in currency and 22 1-ounce gold coins valued at $35,000.00. The defendants spent some of the money on clothes, cell phones and at the casino. They also denied any further knowledge of additional coins.
