    Sergeant Ken Escobio Receives Millennium Sertoma Award

    Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Ken Escobio Receives Millennium Sertoma Award:

    • Hillsborough County Sheriff's Sergeant Ken Escobio was recently honored by the Millennium Sertoma for all of his work on Operation Patriot.

    Details:

    Sgt. Ken Escobio has been with the Sheriff’s Office since July, 1980. During this time he has worked as Patrol Deputy, Property Detective, Patrol Corporal, Street Crimes Corporal and Patrol Sergeant in District IV. He is currently assigned to District III Patrol.

    In the three years he was assigned to District IV Street Crimes, Ken coordinated the annual purchasing, wrapping and presentation of gifts to underprivileged children at the Bethel Mission in Wimauma.

    An eight year cancer survivor, Ken actively supports the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.

    He is co-founder of Operation Patriot, a non-profit Florida corporation which raises funds and solicits items for veterans.

    From 2004 through 2011, Operation Patriot has delivered 1,717 boxes of donations, $6,500 in case and $5,965 in gift cards to the veterans of Baldomero Lopez on Veterans Day.

    Since December 2008, Operation Patriot has sponsored a Christmas party for the veterans at Lopez, including gifts for residents without family, food and entertainment. In 2011 Operation Patriot purchased Christmas gifts for all 120 veterans at Lopez.

    Since February 2008, Sgt. Escobio has coordinated a Mardi Gras party and barbecue for Lopez veterans. Donations were also obtained to provide a prime rib luncheon for Easter 2008. In March of each, while working off duty at the Florida Strawberry Festival, Sgt. Escobio obtains flats of strawberries which are delivered to Lopez along with cake and whipped topping, so that the veterans can enjoy fresh strawberry shortcake.

    Through his leadership, Operation Patriot has been able to purchase such items as laptop computers, recliners, flat screen TV’s, and Wii systems for the benefit of the veterans.
