On March 20, 2012, at 8:46 a.m., motor units were conducting a Click It or Ticket campaign in the area of Waters Avenue West and Hanley Road. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 2007 Mazda, due to the occupants not wearing a seat belt. As the stop was being conducted the passenger in the vehicle, Joey Fontanez threw a black bag out of the passenger side window.
When deputies retrieved the black bag, it contained 95 individual bags of marijuana weighing approximately 223 grams and $735.00. Fontanez was found to have an outstanding warrant from Polk County for Driving with License Suspended/Revoked. He was arrested and transported to Hillsborough County jail.
The driver of the Mazda was cited for not wearing a seat belt.
