Deputy Brandon Parker was on routine patrol when he spotted a Kia Sole parked in the parking lot of Heather Lakes Park with a male driver slumped over in the seat. When Deputy Parker approached the vehicle he smelled the strong odor of marijuana, the driver slipped his hand into a book bag on the passenger side seat. Deputy Parker opened the door, assisting the driver in stepping out of the vehicle. When deputy Parker attempted to search the individual, the suspect resisted and a struggle ensued. The suspect fled on foot from the scene. Deputy Parker called for assistance from K-9 and Aviation. Aviation located the suspect in the area of Coolwood where he was taken into custody without incident.
When deputies searched the suspect vehicle, they discovered a felony amount of marijuana which was all packaged for sell and a loaded .380 loaded handgun in the book bag.
