More than 41 boxes of unused or expired prescriptions were collected Saturday.
Operation Medicine Cabinet Prescription Drug Take-Back Day:
On September 29, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the Special Investigations Division participated in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Operation Medicine Cabinet Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative. Special Investigations Division, District II and District III patrol deputies staffed two Sweetbay Supermarket stores where citizens dropped off unwanted prescription drugs from Hillsborough County citizens.
The two locations collected 41 boxes of unwanted prescription drugs (approximately 700 lbs.) The amount collected on Saturday was more than double the amount collected in April.
The Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance supported this take back initiative. The unused and expired prescription medications collected prevents potentially dangerous drugs from getting into the wrong hands.
