On October 23, 2012 at 3:56 pm, Tampa Fire Rescue and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to an industrial accident reported at 2150 Guy N Verger, Blvd, berth 201, in the Port of Tampa.
Mr. Gilmore along with three other men employed as stevedores for the International Longshoreman's Association were at the bottom of the ship's cargo hold "Honesty Ocean". These men were bundling steel pipes for a crane to lift them from the cargo hold when during a lift; a strap on the bundle broke causing the pipes to crash down upon all four men.
Mr. Gilmore was killed on the ship; a second man suffered non-life threatening injuries and is currently being treated at Tampa General Hospital. The other two men were not injured. OSHA has been notified.
