    Suspects Arrested In New Jersey

    Man and wife wanted in connection with 11 burglaries within Hillsborough County.

    On August 20, 2012 an unknown male burglarized the Sears Department Store located at 2266 University Square Mall. During the burglary approximately $35,000 in jewelry was stolen. Investigation and evidence obtained from the scene revealed that John Scalise was the suspect in this incident. Through the combined efforts of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Tampa Police Department, Temple Terrace Police Department, Broward County Sheriff’s Office and Santee Police Department in Santee, South Carolina, investigation revealed that John Scalise was also a suspect in numerous burglaries to Asian Restaurants in these jurisdictions.

    The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain information that Mr. Scalise and his wife Kathy Garcia may be in the area of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office with the combined efforts of Egg Harbor Township Police were able to locate Scalise and Garcia on September 1, 2012 after Scalise had burglarized six Asian Restaurants and Macy’s Department Store in Egg Harbor Township and surrounding townships. Scalise stole $66,000 in jewelry from Macy’s.

    Detectives from Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to Egg Harbor Township, which is a suburb of Atlantic City, N.J. Detectives were able to recover approximately $30,000 worth of jewelry from the Sears burglary and $66,000 worth of jewelry from Macy’s. Also recovered was a unique mask that was worn in multiple cases in Hillsborough County and $3,000 in currency and merchandise that was purchased with stolen money.

    Scalise and Garcia are being held in the Atlantic Detention Facility in New Jersey. Scalise is being held without bond and Garcia is being held on a $100,000 bond.
