    Man Attacks Deputy During Arrest

    Suspect faces numerous charges.

    Deputy Felix Moret- District 3
    59 years of age
    18 years employed with HCSO

    Deputy Dave Burney- District 3
    57 years of age
    16 years employed with HCSO

    Details:

    On April 22, 2013 at approximately 4:50 p.m., Deputy Felix Moret was flagged down by a citizen at a bus stop located at Sheldon Road and Grosse Point Blvd. The man stated that he had just been robbed at gunpoint by a black male on a bicycle. Deputy Moret observed the suspect fleeing and gave chase. Deputy Moret came in contact with the suspect at which point the suspect struck Deputy Moret with his fists and resisted arrest. During the physical confrontation, the suspect tried to gouge Deputy Moret's eyes out with his thumbs. Deputy Dave Burney arrived as backup and also tried to place the suspect into handcuffs, but the suspect continued to struggle and resist. Both deputies used their tasers and were able to take the suspect into custody. Deputies found the suspect in possession of a Colt .32 caliber revolver with a live round still in the chamber. The suspect will be charged with Armed Robbery of a Person, Resist Arrest with Violence (x2), Battery on a LEO, Carrying Concealed Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm (x2). Deputy Moret was transferred to Florida Hospital to be medically evaluated and treated and has been released. Deputy Burney received abrasions, but was medically cleared on scene. Deputy Moret has been with HCSO for 18 years. Deputy Burney has been with HCSO for 16 years.
