More than 1,300 lbs. of unwanted prescription drugs collected at 2 HCSO Operation Medicine Cabinet locations.
On April 27, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the Special Investigations Division participated in the Drug Enforcement Administration's Operation Medicine Cabinet Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative. Special Investigations Division, District I and District II patrol deputies staffed two Sweetbay Supermarket stores where citizens dropped off unwanted prescription drugs from Hillsborough County citizens.
The two locations collected 74 boxes of unwanted prescription drugs (approximately 1,320 lbs.) The amount collected on Saturday was almost double the amount collected in September of 2012.
The Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance supported this take back initiative. The unused and expired prescription medications collected prevents potentially dangerous drugs from getting into the wrong hands.
