Hillsborough Sheriff's K9 Chino will get an official congratulations on being retired during a ceremony at the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. The commendation will be presented by County Commissioner Al Higginbotham at 9:00 a.m. at the County Center located at 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., 2nd floor in Tampa.
Chino's partner, Deputy Jason Allen, will be, too. Chino, a 7-year-old German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix, retired on July 26, 2013 after 5 years of service. Chino joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in 2008 with the help of funds donated by 13 Ugly Men, Inc. and M&I Bank.
Chino worked countywide in fugitive apprehension and bomb detection. In his next to last day on duty, Chino proved he was a "top dog'' when he helped capture a murder suspect who led law enforcement on a car chase into Pasco County. Chino leaped into the suspect's vehicle and pinned the suspect down, allowing law enforcement to take the man into custody.
