Kenia K. Lee
1713 E. Idell St, Apt A
- Petit Theft
- Trespass - Violation of Probation
On December 10, 2013 at approximately 4:40 pm., Kenia K. Lee was inside Sears at the University Mall located at 2266 Fowler Avenue when she selected numerous pieces of children's clothing and concealed them in a large handbag.
After concealing the items, Lee exited the store passing all points to pay. She was stopped in the parking area by two plainclothes Sears Loss Prevention Staff. They retrieved their merchandise from Lee and were walking her back to their office. As they were walking back, Lee broke away and fled on foot, ran through the parking lot past the north side of Burlington Coat Factory and
down an embankment into a pond on the north side of the University Mall.
Several witnesses and the Sears Loss Prevention Staff observed Lee in the water, but never saw her come out of the pond. As a result, the HCSO dive team was activated to check search for her. In addition, K-9 and Air Service responded to assist with locating Lee.
During the investigation, a surveillance photograph of Lee was obtained from the Sears surveillance video. As a result of media broadcast, several family members of Lee saw her on TV and contacted HCSO. Lee's family escorted her to the Patrol District 1 Office where Lee turned herself in. Lee was taken into custody and booked into the Orient Road Jail.
HCSO will petition the court system for Lee to cover the investigative cost of this incident in the amount of approximately $5000.00 dollars.
