On December 15, 2013 at 6:06 p.m., District IV deputies responded to Little Manatee State Park, 215 Lightfoot Road in Wimauma, after two juvenile female hikers called 911 to report they were lost within the park. Halle Fischer and Monica Castillo advised that after sunset they entered heavy brush and became separated from the trail. HCSO Canine and Aviation responded to the scene to assist and at approximately 6:58 p.m., HCSO Aviation located the hikers approximately 2-3 miles northwest of the park's entrance. HCSO Aviation transported Colonel Jim Previtera and Deputy Dana Chancey to an open field near the hikers and guided them for about 100 yards through a heavily wooded area to the hikers. Colonel Previtera and Deputy Chancey were able to make contact with the hikers and guide them out safely.
