Today at approximately 9:00 a.m., Deputy Gary Hammond and Deputy Orenthial Nicholson were serving a final eviction notice at 9113 W Hillsborough Avenue Apt. J202. William P. Elliot had received at least 24-hour notice that he was to be out of the apartment by 6:00 a.m. today. Deputies knocked loudly on the door and announced that they were with the Sheriff's Office, but received no response. They then asked the landlord to unlock the door so they could clear the residence. Upon entering the living room of the residence, Deputy Hammond noticed Elliot on the left side of the room with a gun. At that time, Deputy Hammond sought refuge in the bathroom and Deputy Nicholson was able to exit through the front door. Shortly after SWAT arrival, we set up an entry team and were able to get Deputy Hammond out through a second floor window. A bomb robot was then used to enter the apartment to try to determine Elliot's location within the apartment and to see if he was armed. Through the robot cam we could see that he was extremely intoxicated and no longer had the gun in his hand. We then entered and removed the subject from the apartment and he was transferred to Tampa General Hospital. He will be baker-acted.
