On February 21, 2013 at approximately 12:36 p.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to a traffic crash at 78th street and Madison avenue. A semi tractor trailer was traveling southbound on 78th street, ran the red light and struck a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was making a turn onto 78th street. When the semi struck the vehicle, the vehicle spun around and struck a concrete truck that was stopped at the light. The Monte Carlo ran up under the front bumper of the concrete truck. The driver, Carol Browning was extricated by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and transported to Tampa General Hospital. The semi driver lost control and traveled through a chain link fence into the back yard of a residence located on the southeast corner of 78th street and Madison avenue. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue was on scene and was able to stop a fuel leak that had begun when one of the fuel tanks on the semi began to leak.
