Detectives are following up leads in the Whiskey Park North shooting at 11921 Dale Mabry Hwy North in Carrollwood. At 3 a.m., January 20th, the bar was closing and hundreds of people were streaming out of the nightclub. At some point, at least one man started shooting in the front parking lot. It is unclear if there was more than one shooter. Investigators are also unsure if the two men shot were targeted or if they were innocent bystanders just leaving the bar. As gunfire erupted, several people took cover behind a parked Mercedes-Benz CLS 550 AMG, belonging to a bar patron visiting from Gainesville. That Mercedes was hit by 10 rounds. Another parked car was also hit by gunfire, shattering a window and mirror. Detectives recovered 17-20 shell casings at the scene. They are also reviewing surveillance video from the bar that captured some of the events.
The manager of Whiskey Park North reports there were no fights or problems inside or outside the bar that he was aware of, before the shootings. Both victims have non-life-threatening injuries. A bullet grazed Yakim Williams in the bicep and head. He has been released from the hospital. Sheldon Lillie remains hospitalized with a bullet wound to the shoulder. As the shooting broke out, approximately 200 people in the parking lot ran for safety, either down Dale Mabry Hwy or back inside the bar. Detectives are now interviewing the witnesses, reviewing evidence, and tracking down leads. There are no suspects at this time.
